It didn’t go Ali Funeka’s way in Frankfurt, Germany at the ”Fraport Arena” Saturday night. The 24-year old Abass Baraou from Germany proved to be too strong, too fast and too ambitious. The lanky veteran from South Africa just couldn’t handle the speed of Baraou and got behind on points from the very start. The German just ”poured it on” from there with hard precise punches, clearly outworking Funeka. No surprise, the fight ended in the fifth (TKO). Funeka was of course disappointed afterwards and manager Wally Munteanu didn’t want to make a rapid statenent on the future of the 41-year old South African, but pointed out the obvious facts, he is not getting any younger and will not be fghting any easy guys at this stage of his career (he turned pro in 1995) It’s ”back to the drawing board” or call it a day”
-we will take a rest for a while now and see what happens says Munteanu.
