At around five a clock in the morning Sunday, (Swedish time) the IBF super Welterweight title fight between Mikaela Laurén and Canadian World champion Marie Eve Dicaire at ”The Montreal Casino”, in Montreal, Canada was over and done with.
A beaten but proud Mikaela Laurén stood in her corner hugging her trainers Wally Munteanu, Benja Kalinovic and Val Echegaray, while in the opposite corner a roughed up Dicaire with a cut and swollen eye cheered over her well deserved victory. Mikaela had produced a tough challenge and was clearly the tougher of the two. She didn’t take too many steps backward, kept charging forward, swinging, pounding and making the circumstances extremely tough for the champion. Mikaela seemed to be the harder fighter of the two, constatly attacking. Dicaire countered well though, moved excellent and escaped Laurén’s punches frequently during the fight. Mikaela started promising in the bout almost shocking Dicaire with her force and sheer power. Many of the rounds were close but the Canadian girl found a way to win them and convince the judges that she was the better one. Her ”sharpshooting” technique took its toll on Mikaela, and when the ten rounds were over with the champion had nicked the verdict. Scores were 97-93, 98-92, 99-91 for Dicaire. Hometown advantage and short notice for Laurén were probably contributing factors why it didn’t quite go Lauréns way this evening. She fought one hell of a fight though and should be proud of her performance
